Drywall Finishing Chicago Illinois

We always thought that if we were going to make a living working on drywall, and other types of things around the house painting had to be part of our services. The last thing that we would want is to leave a mess behind and force you to have to hire another company to paint and finish the repairs or any other type of work that we did. Obviously, painting is really part of our everyday routine. One of the things though that we are really proud of is the fact that we have been able to expand our knowledge of paint colors and how to mix and match them to create the perfect look for you!

You Don’t Have To Combine This Service
We have gotten questions over the years over whether or not a person could just request that we help them paint without having us fix your drywall or offer any other one of our main services. The answer has always been yes. Although we don’t happen to be exclusively a paint company we have a lot of experience in the matter because of all of the different projects that we have worked on over the years. You can bet that we will do a good job.

Not All Paint Is Made Equal
By now we believe that pretty much everyone knows this you are not going to be painting the same way when you are indoors compared to when you are outdoors. Different types of areas could require different types of paint. These are just simple concepts that most paint companies are going to talk about. As we have mentioned we have done these types of jobs for a long time so it is really not that big of a deal for us to cover all of your paint needs.

Unique Designs
We have talked about the different types of things that we can do with wall textures for example that are going to be able to give specific areas a very unique look. Wall textures though are not the only thing that we are going to be able to adjust in your home. We can also play around with different types of paint designs. If you want to add lines or different shapes to the walls, we can get that done. If you are looking for something that we could say is a little more outside the box we would love to talk. It is hard for us to give you a list of ideas that we have been able to see through to becoming real designs. but if you give us a call or contact us we will be able to send at least a couple of pictures your way!

We Would Love To Chat
In a lot of pages on this site, we have stressed the fact that we are open to new ideas all of the time and that we want to give you a finish that you can be proud of. We are not going to be limited by a catalog or anything like that!

Finishing Drywall Services

Picture
Finishing Drywall is very similar to finishing plaster on walls. There are two coats of joint compound. One to cover the joint and the other to finish the edges. If you are just finishing drywall, do not rub the compound on the walls. The compound will burn holes in your material. Also, do not scrape the compound or corners with your knife.

To complete the basic finishing drywall process, you need to apply a coat of joint compound. If your are using a drywall knife, tap it against the wall so it will adhere better. Apply the first coat in even strokes. This gives the compound time to dry properly. Wait for the compound to dry completely before applying the second coat.

Now comes the fun stuff. Finishing touches such as sanding and painting. Sanding sheetrock makes the walls smoother and will even out the material. Sanding can even out areas where the walls meet and spaces between the walls. Sanding will make the walls stronger and will also help with moisture and mold resistance.

Painting gives the appearance of wood paneling without the added cost of real wood. When applying the paint, apply it in even strokes using a brush or roller application tool. Drywall fiberglass tape is less messy than the paint and allows you to apply them more accurately.

Fiberglass tape is much simpler to use and is easier on your joints. To finish drywall, start by nailing down the first joint (no filler needed there). If you want level and accurate angles, begin your work from the bottom of the room. Continue working across the room, cutting and trimming as you go.

Many do-it-yourselfers choose to finish drywall on their own. Some people have no tools and are able to complete this task quite easily. Other homeowners prefer to pay professionals to complete their drywall work. While drywall finishing services can be more expensive than doing it yourself, many homeowners find that it's worth the extra money to have professional drywall help finish their project.

The most challenging drywall finishing  can be installing vinyl or aluminum shingles. For these tasks, many do-it-yourselfers turn to contractors who use heavy duty gypsum wallboard for wallboard joints. Gypsum wallboard is the most common product used for drywall finishing because it is the strongest and most waterproof. Contractors also have access to special tools that gypsum wallboard is not compatible with, such as nails and staplers.

Drywall finishing can also be challenging, especially for those who are used to painting and doing their own taping. The tape is cut to fit the corners and then the corners are patted dry with a mallet. When installing sheetrock in an old home, many older homeowners will cut out their own round shapes using a sheet rock platter. Today sheetrock is easier to handle and most home improvement stores have round finishing nails available.

Installing solid Butt Joints Another common drywall technique is to install butt joints. Butt joints are installed where two layers of drywall meet. They are used when the bottom layer of drywall is not required. The top layer is already attached to sheetrock and the bottom layer fits around the existing drywall. It is possible to do this kind of drywall joint with sheetrock but the results often look irregular. If the process is done correctly, the bottom drywall edge will have no bumps or ridges which means the new butt joint will fit tightly.

Finishing Drywall With Mudding Another Chicago drywall contractor near me technique requires little construction and a lot of messy paper tape. Home improvement store stock cans of mudding are placed in a shallow plastic basket and then the bottom of the can is ripped off leaving a thin film of funding behind. The funding dries overnight and the adhesive sticks to the surface of the drywall. To do this drywall method correctly, you need to ensure the tape is taped properly to the drywall surface and the tape is taped in the correct area. When the tape is peeled from the wall the mudding is level and firm.

Finishing Drywall With Scratches The method of finishing drywall with scratches is achieved by cutting away pieces of the drywall surface with a scissor. There are a variety of options available for the size of cuts to be made. The aim is to create a smooth finish line on the wall surface. A professional drywall contractor can usually perform this process easily but it is worth getting it done by a do-it-yourselfer if you are a novice.

Finishing Drywall with Paint It is possible to finish the drywall with paint after you have completed the mudding and tacky jointing. If you want a smooth finish, you can skip the mudding and tacky jointing and paint the wallboard directly. If you have damaged drywall you may be able to patch it up but it is not advisable to paint it until the damaged areas are completely repaired. The drywall will still show signs of damage, even after you have painted it.
